Dawn Cloake, a Profile…………

Dawn Cloake  is well-known for her expertise in modelling apparel designs on the dress stand,
published books and articles on flat pattern cutting and both industrial and couture sewing techniques.
 
Teaching has always been of major importance and  includes positions of considerable responsibility,
e.g.,  Head of Fashion and Home Economics, West Kent College, UK  and Visiting Lecturer at the
University of the Arts London College of Fashion, Europe's largest centre for art, design and related
technologies.

Dawn's career includes industrial experience as a designer and cutter; designer/dressmaker running her
own Couture Bridal and Eveningwear Studio in London and working as a freelance fashion consultant,
broadcaster and author. Her special occasionwear has been featured on American television and sold in
top shops, e.g., Fraid's of Montreal and J.C. Penney’s of New York besides countless specialist shops
in the UK. Her qualifications include degrees in Fashion, History of Art and English Language as well as
Distinctions in the Post-graduate teaching of all three subjects. 

Dawn has published several books on draping and pattern cutting, a distance learning course in pattern
cutting for beginners and mini-course booklets, e.g., ‘How to Make a Boned Bodice’, which includes a
pattern graded into 8 sizes. In 2000, Dawn launched www.fashionacademy.co.uk -- an  Internet Fashion
Consultancy to promote her distance learning flat pattern cutting course and CAD (Computer-Aided-Design)
Pattern Cutting for Personal Computers and is now the UK Consultant for PatternMaker Software, USA.

Qualifications: City and Guilds of London Institute graduate in Dress design, Pattern Cutting and Construction,
Ladies Tailoring, Millinery and Soft Furnishing and Teacher’s Certificate.

PGCE (Post-Graduate Teaching Certificate) in History & Theory of Art and English Language
